Rob Gillion

Rob was born in 1951. He is married to Janine and they have two grown up children, Alex 30 and Arthur 25. He trained as a professional actor alongside Janine at drama school in London and went on to work as an actor and theatre director for 12 years before being called to priestly ministry. Janine continued to work in theatre as well as teaching, especially working with young people who are emotionally and behaviourally challenged.

He is currently Rector of Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Square, and Area Dean of Chelsea. He trained at Salisbury and Wells Theological College and was ordained priest in 1984, serving his first curacy in the Norwich Diocese in East Dereham. From there he was called to St Matthias in Richmond in the Diocese of Southwark as Team Vicar Designate.

In 1990 Rob was appointed to work as Senior Chaplain at St John's Cathedral Hong Kong and Priest in Charge of a daughter church on Lantau Island. His responsibilities included being Acting Dean when needed, Head of Religious Broadcasting and Chaplain to the prisons on Lantau Island.

In 1998/9 he returned to London as the Bishop of Kensington's Officer of Evangelism, which involved teaching, preaching, training and supporting parishes in mission and overseeing training for parish evangelists.

In 2001 he became incumbent of the united benefice of St Simon Zelotes and St Saviour, Chelsea, while continuing to advise the Bishop on mission and evangelism. St Saviour's became home to a fresh expression of ministry called "Intermission" where his wife Janine has been working full time, as a missioner to the arts. In October 2008 he became Rector of Holy Trinity, Upper Chelsea.

Rob is also a member of the Archbishops' College of Evangelists with a brief to arts and media, and is a broadcaster on radio. He has contributed to "Thought for the Day" and Morning Worship on Radio 4, and is now a regular member of Terry Wogan's team on "Pause for Thought" on Radio 2. He has also contributed to the Bible Reading Fellowship's
New Daylight reflections, among other publications. Rob is a qualified teacher, has been a governor for several schools and is currently a trustee and governor of Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School.

As Chairman of the Actors' Church Union and Senior Theatre Chaplain, he is responsible for training and placing theatre chaplains around the UK.
