The Chelsea Academy Race Team took part in the Greenpower Goodwood heat F24 competition on Friday 17th June. Skye, Zios and Momina from Y9 and Xavier from Y10 drove the car in two heats, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
In the morning we were the 3rd fastest kit car and ended up 20th overall in a field of over 70 cars. This is a huge improvement over last year where we were 40th. We spent the time between the heats modifying the aerodynamics of the car by taping laminated card on the underside of the car with duct tape! This improved our lap times by almost 20 seconds and increased the top speed of the car from 28 to 29 mph in the second race making us the fastest kit car. Unfortunately the chain came off during the last pit stop and it took us 10 minutes to repair it so we ended up in 37th place in the second heat. We now have some good ideas how to make the car faster for the next race at Dunton on Saturday 9th July.
