5th July 2010
Dear Parents / Carers
Visits to Lots Road Site: Thursday 8th July 2010
I am pleased to inform you that we have arranged for all students to visit the Academy site on Lots Road for a final time prior to our move in September. The tours will take place during the Academy day and students will be visiting the site in their Learning Groups. The Wates Construction team and the Academy Leadership Team will be leading the tours.
Arrangements for the tours are as follows:
> Students have been informed that tours will be taking place this Thursday 8th July and of the time of their tour.
> They should arrive at the Academy in the morning as usual on the day of their tour.
> Students should wear full Academy uniform as usual and ensure that they are wearing appropriate footwear – i.e. study shoes and no ballet pumps/plimsolls. If students would normally be wearing their PE kit at the time of their tour, they must ensure that they are wearing tracksuit bottoms.
> They will be accompanied to and from Lots Road and around the building by members of Academy staff.
> Break and lunch arrangements will not be affected and will run at the Academy as usual.
All Academy rules and sanctions apply as normal. The students will be visiting a working building site which is nearing completion but still requires caution as we go around it. I would ask you, therefore, to ensure that your son / daughter understands the need for impeccable behaviour and co-operation with all aspects of the day.
This is an exciting and unique opportunity for the students to see the Academy as it nears completion and in advance of September so that they have more of an understanding of the building they will be moving into next year. We are extremely grateful to Wates Construction for yet again accommodating these tours.
New Student Intake Day: Tuesday 13th July 2010
In preparation for joining us in Year 7 this September, Year 6 students from our feeder primary schools will be visiting us on Tuesday 13th July in order to get a taste of Academy life. Some of our current Year 7 students will be remaining on site to help with running the day for our new intake, but most Year 7 students will be off site for the whole day.
Students will be involved in one of the following activities: on site assistance with the new intake day; a dance competition; a geography field trip; a mathematics challenge; a visit to a full secondary school in Reading or a food technology trip. There will be no charge for any of the trips and lunch will be provided for all students.
Students will be informed which activity they will be taking part in during the next couple of days and you will receive a letter from the member of staff leading the trip confirming arrangements for the day including, departure and return times, uniform guidelines, lunch arrangements and whether it will appropriate for students to bring spending money.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Yours sincerely
Ms C Harrison
Vice Principal
