The Jack Petchey Award is designed to recognise achievement. Jack Petchey, a very successful entrepreneur, introduced this scheme to recognise "extreme endeavour and to help young people to help themselves". This award enables schools to recognise the effort, endeavour and achievement of young people in a practical and positive way. People are nominated not just for academic achievement or being the sportiest, but because they are hard working or have done something really positive for other people.

The Academy's Student Council is involved in the running of the scheme, the short-listing of nominees and the selection of the final winner. Each month they select one person to receive an achievement award for the contribution they have made to Academy life. The winner receives a framed certificate and a cheque for £200 (payable to the Academy) to be spent on an Academy or community project of the recipient's choice.
