On Tuesday 30th January the Lord Mayor of London hosted the prestigious Grand Final of the Livery Academy Awards Competition at Mansion House.  The awards are designed to promote entrepreneurial skills within state schools. Four teams of 6th form students from different academies across London pitched their business idea to a panel of esteemed judges and over 400 guests from the business world.  The winning pitch from the Chelsea Academy team aims to provide a social media platform to allow retirees to connect through a simple interface specifically catered to the target audience of 65+.

The competition was strong as all teams delivered well researched and confident pitches.  However, the Chelsea Academy team inspired the judges with their passionate and often humorous pitch.   The Academy and their sponsors, the Grocers’ Company, were delighted when the result was announced and the winners received a standing ovation.  All the hard work from staff and students had paid off!

Chelsea Academy would like to thank Santander, Creature advertising agency and start up Scoodle for their help in mentoring the students to develop the business.

“ I am immensely proud of our winning team and their poise and confidence on the night was down to the meticulous preparation and support given to them by Mr Bereksi-Reguig. Our partnership with the Grocers’ Company is growing each year and we are delighted to be able to put together a winning team for them and the Academy. Our Sixth Form is one of the best in London when you look at both the results and the opportunities that our students are offered. Well done to all involved!”- Mr Williams

“I was so proud to watch the students grow in confidence over the course of the competition. They are now fearless public speakers, a skill which will stand them in good stead for the future! We are thankful to the various Livery Companies and the City Corporation for giving us this opportunity, not just to our children but to all young people from the schools that took part..” – Mr Bereksi

The environment I grew up [in]opportunities were so scarce…..but one decision really changed my life and that was joining Chelsea Academy because they were the platform who got me to where I am” –  Timothy (Sixth Form student)
