Oracy Update – Ms Poku

Year 9 students are now doing Oracy club after school. We have been exploring different methods for Debate and Discussion – Rebuttal Debate which is a battle between two groups.

They had fun with the “Snowball” – They wrote their opinions on a piece of paper, scrunched it up into a ball  and threw it in the air like a snowball. Different papers are chosen randomly, opinions read out loud and then discussed as a group.

Talking Roles has also been effective and enjoyable where an instigator starts the debate with an opinion and everyone else comments whether they agree or disagree using sentence starters. For example “That’s an interesting point but”.
