STEM Update – February 2020

Yr 8 South Downs Field Trip  8 Saturn and 8 Mars had the opportunity to  go to South Downs for a school trip run by King’s College PGCE students. Thankfully the weather held out and the students engaged in a range of activities:  worm-charming earthworms from soil with mustard water, a competition to design the best den from woodland materials to keep small rodents warm, orienteering skills, examining species biodiversity and impact of environmental conditions, a tree hugging trust activity whereby students were blindfolded and had to rely on their partner to direct them to a specific tree and then identify the tree through touch. The Learning Partnership
We have found a sponsor  through The Learning Partnership who contributed in the purchase of the Model Rocket Car Kit for all our Year 7s to participate in the the Global STEM challenge Race to the Line. We have long awaited this opportunity and are really excited as Year 7s have the chance  to experience STEM learning through hands-on practical applications by working in teams to design the fastest rocket car. These cars will race under timed conditions and compete with others from schools globally.

Over the next three half terms (HT4/HT5/HT6), Year 7 students will be working on the Race to Line project in Design and Technology.  Looking forward to seeing how our students take STEM in their stride and work in teams, problem solve and apply their STEM knowledge to do this.

STEM After School Club
Please see below the schedule for the STEM after school clubs for the next half term. Looking forward to seeing you there!
