Year Group Update – Year 9 – December 2019

Year 9 have had three extended assemblies where external speakers have visited to present and discuss important topics such as The Women and Girls’ Network, Breast Cancer Awareness and SAME Academy Road Safety. We also had a brilliant performance from The Mighty Zulu Nation to celebrate Black History Month, after which some of our Year 9 students trained and performed for the younger students with the Mighty Zulus themselves.

The Women and Girls’ Network sessions that nine of our female students have been taking part in came to a close this week, and 11 of our male students have recently started sessions on managing their emotions in a more positive manner.

Our music scholars have been busy this year as well, with beautiful performances during Open Evening and the Christmas Concert, as well as singing Christmas Carols in the Community this week.

Our Year 9 mental health ambassadors were instrumental in organising Mental Health Awareness day and Anti-Bullying Week with Mr. Richards and Ms. Sanders in the ISC.

A record number of Year 9 students also attended our Duke of Edinburgh launch and have started working towards their Bronze award this year.

Some lucky Year 9 students were taken to Wembley stadium to watch the men’s England football team play their 1000th match as a reward for their excellent effort during PE lessons.

Ms. Thakrar also took her extended curriculum class to the Science museum where they had a great time using advanced scientific equipment and performing experiments.

Thank you all so much for your support and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

Year 9 Charity
Year 9 will be supporting Glass Door, a local charity offering shelter and support to men and women affected by homelessness. We’re looking forward to planning fundraising events and activities to raise both money and awareness of this deserving cause.
