Year Group Update – Year 9 – February 2020

Thank you to all Year 9 parents for your attendance and enthusiasm at Learning Coach Consultation Day - it was great to see so many of you there to discuss your child’s first Key Stage 4 progress check and GCSE predictions. It was also wonderful to see how proud our students were at their achievements. Their hard work and commitment is paying off.  We also had the Year 9 teenage booster jabs last week, where the students impressed both myself and the nurses with their mature and sensible attitude towards getting their injections. Thank you to all Year 9 parents for your attendance and enthusiasm at Learning Coach Consultation Day – it was great to see so many of you there to discuss your child’s first Key Stage 4 progress check and GCSE predictions. It was also wonderful to see how proud our students were at their achievements. Their hard work and commitment is paying off.

We also had the Year 9 teenage booster jabs last week, where the students impressed both myself and the nurses with their mature and sensible attitude towards getting their injections.

During their PE lessons, Year 9s have been lucky enough to be given the opportunity to go on a BMX course and Mr. Pritchard has been full of praise for how well they have done. Some of our Year 9s even learnt to ride a bike for the first time during their BMX trip!

A group of Year 9 students also attended St. Paul’s Cathedral with Mr. Richards, our Chaplain and after completing a ‘reflective labyrinth’, they went on to climb to the top of the Cathedral from where they could see almost the whole of central London below them. Again, their behaviour was exemplary and they were a real credit to the Academy.

This week we have been celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week where students have been taking part in activities all around the Academy, encouraging them to talk about mental health and to “Find their Brave”.

We are now very much looking forward to the school musical ‘Disco Inferno’ during the final week of half term as well as our ‘Jamie’s Farm’ trip where five of our Year 9 students will spend a whole week helping out on a farm deep in the British countryside – let’s pray for good weather for them!
